What’s not mentioned here and is seldom mentioned anywhere in related discussions is how a mammogram can be a potentially triggering experience for sexual abuse survivors. I know more than a handful of female survivors who had such terrible experiences with their mammogram, both with the process of the breast compression and the manner of the techs, that they will never go back. Given the high number of sexual abuse survivors and the impact that early childhood trauma can have on later health, including cancer, those who can do better, should.
